Geologists, biologists, and naturalists from around the world seek Ron’s recognized expertise in the geology, flora, fauna and human history of the desert southwest. Ron teaches courses for the Dixie State College Elderhostel program, is a guest lecturer for Zion Canyon Field Institute, and provides programs to visitors as a seasonal park ranger at Zion National Park. The Travel Channel has also featured Ron as part of their desert southwest series.
Ron has spent most of his life in the southwest and has a true passion for the desert. He is an accomplished photographer, having photographed animals, plants and scenery of the desert for many years. His surroundings have also brought out the artist in Ron. His extensive associations with the Native Americans have inspired art pieces that can be found in many prominent collections. Ron’s work was featured in Southwest Art magazine.
Ron was born and raised in Utah, where his love for the outdoors was instilled upon him from an early age when his parents would encourage him to pursue his interest in nature.
Now, with more than thirty years of learning and teaching about the unique desert environment under his belt, Ron continues to pursue his love for the outdoors and follows many different avenues that would allow him to work with and study natural sciences.
Ron is the author of “Ron Kay’s Guide to Zion National Park” and is currently working on several new books regarding the desert southwest and the Colorado Plateau.
