Each NaturePod is a little different, but as a general rule, you should have about 1 gigabyte of space available for the program. Now, some of you, especially iTouch and iphone users, might be thinking, “wow, that’s a lot of space,” but remember that many of our national parks or natural areas have little or no cell phone service. We have chosen to put the entire program on your device, so you will never have to worry about reception.
Each NaturePod comes with a pdf to walk you through the steps to get it from the email we send you to your ipod. In a nutshell, you will simply be dragging the files into your music management system (iTunes, etc.). The iPod allows you to use a feature called “Notes” to easily and quickly search your audio or video files. NaturePods takes advantage of this feature to better organize your tour. You will need to enable this feature on your iPod and then click and drag the “notes files” we send you onto your iPod. Again, those instructions will be included along with the audio or video files in the email we send. You can also find the directions in the website here.
We are continually searching the country for the best naturalists we can find. We seek out people who not only have a great deal of knowledge, but also have strong communication skills so that we can effectively share their knowledge with you.
Although audio NaturePods will run on any mp3 player and video NaturePods will run on any personal media device that can support mp4 videos, we believe that Apple’s ipods are your best choice. The ipods use a feature called “notes” which allows us to organize your NaturePod and you to quickly scroll to the narration that most interests you. You don’t want to be trying to identify a wildflower and have to scroll through your whole video library. The ipod nano and the ipod classics are both excellent choices. The new ipod touch and the iphone no longer support the “notes” feature, but we are working on an application to help better support this device.
Just as you might find a variety of printed materials about a national park, some free and some costly, new programming for personal media devices (i.e. ipods)will also run the gamut. At NaturePods, we create a product that provides a depth of knowledge to enhance your visit to the parks. We have found exceptional people to author each guide. They bring this detailed knowledge and understanding to each NaturePod. We then wrap it into a complete and searchable product that will allow you to access the information you want when you want it.
